Fanart from ‘Nation’ by Terry Pratchett.
Nation is one of my favourite books of all time. It is thoughtful, funny, poignant and above all, a bloody good page-turner.It is such a shame though, that the more I love something, the harder I find it to really capture it’s essence in a picture.
But, despite the frustration, will I ever stop on trying to get it right next time…? As Mau would say, “DOES NOT HAPPEN!”
This talk was given in 1985, after Colour of Magic was printed but before The Light Fantastic and Equal Rites.
It’s about the differences between the ways men and women of magic are portrayed in fantasy lit and it’s, of course, great because it’s Terry Pratchett speaking.

You know, sometimes I get really angry about the way fantasy-fans and other assorted geeks underestimate Sir Terry. He doesn’t get half the credit he deserves.

Is my memory failing me or was he listed as “Extremely Senior Postman” in the credits?

Ooh, ooh, and also Shawn Ogg, tourist guide, lackey, soldier and creator of the Lancre army pocket knife.
I met a zombie punk at IDWCon. It was the best costume. It should have won awards.

“But- all tobacco products, yada yada yada, health and safety, you know…”
This man. He’s just.
Today in Anatomy class we were reading articles on stem cell research, both for and against, so we could write essays on the subject. (even though the debate has pretty much been solved, but whatever) One of the articles quoted a Dr. Lawn, who was an elective abortion specialist and stem cell…
